  • The difference between self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-worth

Activities: Define self-esteem and 2 reasons it is important

Module 2: Theories of Self-Esteem

  • Overview of psychological affect low self-esteem
  • Factors influencing self-esteem (family, culture, experiences)

Activities: Write 2 paragraphs explaining how low self-esteem is harmful and where low self-esteem can be derived from.

             Module 3: Self-Assessment

Identifying Self-Perceptions

  • Guided self-reflection exercises
  • Journaling prompts to explore self-image

Activities: Write a paragraph on 3 ways you can improve your self-esteem

Module 4: Recognizing Negative Beliefs

  • Understanding cognitive distortions
  • Exercises to identify and challenge negative thoughts

Activities: Write 3 ways you will control or avoid negative thoughts

             Module: 5 Building Positive Self-Esteem

              Practicing Self-Compassion

  • Techniques for self-acceptance
  • Mindfulness practices to foster compassion

Activities: Write a paragraph explaining how it can be unwise to make comparisons
between yourself and circumstances of others.

Module 6: Setting Healthy Boundaries

  • Understanding the role of boundaries in self-esteem
  • Practical exercises to establish personal boundaries

Activities: Establish a short list of boundaries regarding self-esteem

           Module 7: Maintaining and Growing Self-Esteem

      Goal Setting and Achievement

  • Creating a SMART goal for personal growth
  • Review, share and discuss

Activities: Create 2 personal SMART goals for the next month.

Module 8: Sustaining Positive Changes

  • Strategies for long-term self-esteem maintenance
  • Building a support network

             Activities: Write a step-step plan for maintaining a healthy self-esteem


Assessment

Formative Assessment (Throughout the Course)

  1. Reflective Journals: Create a journal to document insights, challenges, and progress.
  2. Group Discussions: Participate in discussion and share experiences learned from peers.

Summative Assessment (End of Course)

  1. Self-Esteem Improvement Plan:
    • Develop a personalized plan that includes:
      • A summary of self-assessment findings
      • Specific strategies for building self-esteem
      • Long-term goals and methods to track progress
    • Format: 3-5 pages, including a self-reflection section.
  2. Presentation:
    • Present your Self-Esteem Improvement Plan to the class (10-15 minutes).
    • Share key insights and how you plan to implement your strategies.

Grading Criteria: (Teacher's Subjectivity)

  • Depth of self-reflection and understanding (30%)
  • Practicality and creativity of the Improvement Plan (30%)
  • Clarity and engagement of presentation (20%)
  • Participation in discussions and journal submissions (20%)

Far too many in today's world, have little or less than a healthy view of themselves. A healthy self-esteem is at a premium. With the uncertainty of each day in a changing world, there is little self-belief that one can achieve life success to their satisfactory. Building or rebuilding a health self-esteem requires work.
